Our Story
Founded in Halifax in 1949, Duffus Romans Kundzins Rounsefell Architects Ltd. is one of the major architectural firms in the Atlantic region, with an impressive and growing body of completed projects spanning the spectrum of institutional, commercial, industrial and residential fields. As a mid-sized firm we are able to offer services for projects ranging from very small to relatively large for public and private sector clients. Reflecting the changes in our industry and profession, DRKR Architects offers numerous specialty services in addition to offering superior traditional architectural services.
DRKR Architects works collaboratively with consultants who complement our firm's strengths and philosophies. We seek to assemble team members with the preeminent skills to address the specific needs of the project and client, to ensure the most complete and comprehensive approach. DRKR Architects has worked with many major building engineering consultant firms in the region, and has cultivated strong rapports, and working relationships, over many projects.

Our team has an accredited RHFAC Professional and graphic design specialist. We believe it is vital to reduce barriers and enhance space for all. We participate in Client projects ranging from accessible design to wayfinding and visually contracting branding.
Space Planning + Functional Programming
Pre-design and user engagement is one of our areas of specialty; we assess needs, analyze current layouts, manage changes, and prioritize function - creating a cohesive, efficient, and effective environment.
Building Condition + Code Assessments
DRKR performs existing building condition and Code assessments, specializing in heritage architecture and building envelope systems. Our in-house expertise allow us to provide systematic reviews of our client’s assets to make informed decisions about renewals and requirements.
Building Envelope Renewal
With over 40 years of participating in building envelope renewals, we have a large portfolio of building and construction types and building science principles. Aiming to improve efficiency of a building’s envelope to control climate and reduce energy costs through our designs - our envelope renewals have withstood the test of time.
